Wildcard PAF Set

Not every Burst sounded the same.

In the late 1950s, Gibson built pickups with whatever materials were at hand, and production processes were far from streamlined. Even though PAFs were machine-wound, magnets varied, coils were simply filled and no one paid attention to matching pickups as sets.

This is exactly what gave every Burst its own unique voice.

The Wild Card PAF Set is built around that idea.

Instead of aiming for perfect balance, this set embraces asymmetry. An underwound bridge pickup meets a hotter, singing neck – creating a contrast that gives your instrument a truly unique sonic signature.

This set is a bit like a gamble. You can choose the safer option (‘58), featuring a classic double black look under the covers, or go for the more random route (‘59–’60), where each set came with a unique combination of bobbins, just like back in the day. Also depending on that choice the wind and magnets will be a little bit different, to reflect different stages in PAF evolution.

All sets come with nickel covers installed, just like on real Bursts.

This set captures the spirit of late ’50s humbuckers, with all the quirks that made them special in the first place.
